The Debauchery Series: Episode 3 at Jalopy Friday, May 20th

The Debauchery Series, episode 3: Lust is in the Air… It’s Spring and even educated fleas are doing it. Come to The Jalopy Theater in Brooklyn this Friday, May 20th at 9 pm to hear New York’s finest traditional musicians perform songs about what’s on everyone’s mind. By the end of the night, you’ll be sure to know what a “Jelly Roll” is.

The series is hosted by The Whistling Wolves, who believe in having good old-fashioned dirty fun. That’s why they’ve partnered up to bring the top musicians on New York’s folk/country/oldtime/bluegrass/blues scene together for a series of concerts like no other. The Debauchery Series will publicly showcase music that these days is often kept private: sexy, rowdy, lewd, ugly, illegal, politically incorrect, did-he-just-say-what-I-think-he-said traditional music from the heart of the America.

Whistled melodies have inspiredgreat music from Otis Redding, Paul Simon and others. But whistling has also inspired murderous looks on the subway. WNYC Soundcheck debates the sometimes-awesome, sometimes-annoying art of whistling. Guests include New Yorker editor and writer Ben Greenmanand singer, teacher – and competitive-whistling champion – Emily Eagen.  Readers of Bluegrass NYC will know Emily as one of the fantastic musicians performing in The Whistling Wolves.

Tonight at Jalopy- the perfect solution to the eternal question, “how should we celebrate St Patty’s Day?”

Well, who knew? It seems those fresh faced folks from the Whistling Wolves believe in having good old-fashioned dirty fun.

The Whistling Wolves host three inappropriately-themed evenings that will give you an unhealthy dose of sex, drugs, and fighting.

The show starts tonight, Thursday, March 17 at 9 pm.

Besides world championship whistler Emily Eagen, this group features beautiful vocals, ukulele, fiddle, guitar, bass, hot harmonica from Trip Henderson, strings & things by the wizard Spiff Wiegand and super bad-ass Chris Q. Murphy. Following the Wolves is Travis Whitelaw, who’s Texarkana country rock pounds a stake through the heart of political correctness. Men might blush and women may blanch - but they’ll all sing along. So this will be Saturday to spend all night at the bar. Paul Thornton opens the evening at 7 followed by Sean Smith & the Setting Sons.

Whistlin’ Wolves at Parkside Lounge June 21

Whistlin' Wolves

The Tennessee Mafia Jug Band will play with the Whistlin’ Wolves on Monday, June 21 at Parkside Lounge on Houston Street between Avenues B & C.

From the pastoral hills, hollers, shopping malls and interstate highways of Goodlettsville Tennessee, home of Bill Monroe, Bashful Brother Oswald, Stringbean, Grandpa Jones, Keith Whitley and some living country music performers, comes the most entertaining “blast from the past” since Lester Moran and the Cadillac Cowboys. They’re the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band — five guys and a scrubboard, with roots like wisdom teeth.”

“THE WHISTLIN’ WOLVES features the beautiful vocals, ukulele, fiddle, guitar and two time world championship whistling of EMILY EAGEN; the hot harmonica, ukulele and vocal styling of TRIP HENDERSON; the wizard of the strings & things (vocals, banjo, mandolin, guitar, jew’s-harp…) SPIFF WIEGAND: and super bad-ass CHRIS Q. MURPHY singing, playing bass and guitar. The only whistling - harmonica - ukulele - fiddle - guitar - banjo - jew’s-harp - mandolin - bass - vocal harmony group around.”
