This weekend Jalopy Theatre has a write up in the New York Times:

Like some soulful machine stalled at the mouth of the Battery Tunnel, the Jalopy brings a joyful ruckus to the edge of Red Hook, Brooklyn. In rowdy roots-music style, this theater, bar and clubhouse conservatory dares visitors to be carried, shouting and singing, toward jubilation.

The piece includes a great slideshow of pictures

Eli Smith: Is folk music back? Sure is, especially at the Jalopy Theatre, where Carroll Gardens jams with Red Hook — and where this master of many stringed instruments performs and teaches. To showcase a new crop of folkies, Smith also created the Brooklyn Folk Festival, coming June 10-12 at Jalopy and the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition.  From Brooklyn Independent Television’s Caught In The Act, episode 38. Original air date: 5/25/2011.

The Brooklyn Jugs reunited at the 7th Annual Brooklyn Country Music Festival last night.  Joining them on stage was Geoff Wiley, pictured on the bass.  Geoff is the owner of Jalopy Theater.  Here’s hoping the Jugs will get to play again sometime, maybe on Columbia Street?
