This weekend Jalopy Theatre has a write up in the New York Times:
Like some soulful machine stalled at the mouth of the Battery Tunnel, the Jalopy brings a joyful ruckus to the edge of Red Hook, Brooklyn. In rowdy roots-music style, this theater, bar and clubhouse conservatory dares visitors to be carried, shouting and singing, toward jubilation.
The piece includes a great slideshow of pictures.

Great news from the Fabulous Jalopy Theatre and School of Music- they are expanding, taking over the former Moonshine Bar next door! That means the high church of roots music just got a fellowship hall. It will open sometime this fall and will be known as the Big Time Jalopy Tavern. Keep an ear out for more, and celebrate Jalopy’s 5th Anniversary bringing the sounds of roots music to Red Hook this Friday, September 30th.
The official party starts at 8 pm, but come at 6 pm for the opening of a new art show by Robin Hoffman, Jalopy’s in-house artist. The opening will also feature a documentary film by Elif Alp’s documentary short film, “The Fabulous Jalopy,” which has been accepted in to the 2011 Coney Island Film Festival. During the opening, the M. Shanghai band will entertain. Get your tickets here!

Brooklyn-based string band Union Street Preservation Society kicks off the release of their debut EP Sunday, July 24th at 7:30pm at the celebrated Jalopy Theatre in Red Hook. Fresh from sharing the stage with Greensky Bluegrass, Cornmeal and Max Creek, the quintet is “tasty and alive” (GlideMagazine.com) — their spirited vocals and runaway-train instrumentals breathe fire and soul into their original blend of bluegrass, blues and early jazz. With fellow Americana roots group The Third Wheel Band starting off the evening, it’s sure to be a night of electricity and a rip-roaring, foot-stomping good show. 315 Columbia St., Brooklyn, NY 11231. $5 cover. More information is here.
