The Wildwood Sisters play the Rockwood Music Hall next Monday, November 21st, at 9 pm.
Two young women from the heartland and the southland, Cara Scarmack (guitar) and Kate Prascher (mandolin) met and now pick together in New York City. Also known as the Wildwood Sisters, these bright young things play the music of the old time ramblers and the bluegrass boys. Sarah Jarosz Record Release Party May 17 at Rockwood Music Hall

Sarah Jarosz was just written up in the New York Times.  She has a record release party at Rockwood Music Hall on Tuesday, May 17th. This is one to be certain you can make- Sarah is a prodigious talent and her new album is certain to be a success. From the NYT: “On May 17, six days shy of her 20th birthday, Sugar Hill Records, the venerable bluegrass and Americana label, will start a new promotional push with the release of Ms. Jarosz’s sophomore record, “Follow Me Down.” Ms. Jarosz wrote all but 2 of the album’s 11 tracks, and the credits in the liner notes read like a roll call of the acoustic music world’s elite, — Béla Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Shawn Colvin and Darrell Scott.”

Spirit Family Reunion does two shows this weekend: Friday at 11pm at the Lone Wolf in Bushwick (1089 Broadway), and Saturday at midnight at Rockwood Music Hall (196 Allen Street). Check them out for a foot stompin’ good time!

Rockwood Music Hall hosts CMJ acts: Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Chris Thile and Michael Daves, Riley Etheridge, Sister Sparrow, more

Rockwood Music Hall on Allen Street between Stanton and Houston will host some great bluegrass/country/Americana acts as part of the CMJ Music Marathon over the next few days.  Bands playing the venue include Greensboro, North Carolina’s Holy Ghost Tent Revival, The Punch Brothers’ Chris Thile with Michael Daves, South Carolina born country singer songwriter Riley Etheridge, and many others.

One of the interesting acts worth checking out should be Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds, who are “New Orleans inspired”, horn infused, cool and soulful fun.  Also the sister is easy on the eyes. They play tonight, October 23rd. Full schedule for the Rockwood here
