I’m sad to miss this one- tonight at Brooklyn Bowl Brooklyn’s The Woes open for Langhorne Slim. As far as I am aware the last time these two bands gigged together it was a couple years back at the Bell House; I remember it was an amazing night. The Woes go on at 8:30- check this one out.

The Woes. Amazing chaps from Brooklyn. The song is Black Bramble. Cool website- Living and Breathing- which tries to create “unique spaces where each recording session sets a different stage for the artist, one where the audience they play for is themselves. Our philosophy is to bring you this music in its most raw, honest and unadulterated form…music that is Live and Breathing.”

Great review of The Woes EP The Bird and The Bear over at PostCard Elba.
The varied influences that have always shaped the sound of The Woes (bluegrass, soul, pre-war blues, dixieland and americana) are on full display once again, but with a greater cohesion than ever before. That’s not to say that their former releases, especially their 2009 full length Heaven Knows - a must-have album in our book, were unfocused. The Woes have always juggled these genres masterfully to create an experience that is true to each of them while also being transcendent in creating a unique sound that is greater than it’s parts.
I have both Heaven Knows and the EP and they make for regular listening in this Brooklyn household- even the baby likes it.

Tonight The Woes play Brooklyn’s Rock Shop. Check out some of their fantastic tracks, like The Secret, on their Band Camp page. The band has a new EP, just released, which is available on iTunes called The Bird and the Bear. These guys are the best band in Brooklyn- check them out tonight!
Recent shows in and around Brooklyn: The Roulette Sisters, The Woes, and The Flanks.
The Woes play Brooklyn’s Littlefield tomorrow night, Saturday October 23rd with a couple of CMJ bands. They will undoubtedly rock as they always do- they are the best country western/New Orleans/blues/roots/rock/everything under the sun group out there- don’t miss this show. Doors at 8 pm.

The 7th Annual Brooklyn Country Music Festival takes the stage at Southpaw September 10-12, 2010. Featuring The Woes, The Defibulators, The Roulette Sisters, The Jack Grace Band, The Flanks, Jessica Rose & The High Life, Uncle Leon & The Alibis, Spirit Family Reunion, The Brooklyn Jugs, Dock Oscar & The Ambassadors of Love, and of course organizer Alex Battles. Tickets on sale now, including a limited number of three day passes for $30 a piece. Check it out, this is always fun!
Two fantastic Brooklyn acts- genre-smashing The Woes and corn money lovin’ The Defibulators- are joining up on stage in that other borough, Manhattan, this Friday night at Ars Nova. Ars Nova is at 511 West 54th Street just west of 10th Avenue. Tickets are a mere $10- certainly worth it for this eye popping set.

Photos from Annie & The Beekepers and The Woes last night, June 26th at 92YTribeca. Great show! Vote for the Woes in the Magic Hat Newport Folk Festival contest. See The Woes this afternoon at Smith & Degraw in Brooklyn at Stinkfest ‘10- cheese, beer, music.

Brooklyn’s The Woes will be playing with Annie and the Beekepers at 92YTribeca on Saturday night at 9 pm. Tickets $10/$12. Osei is one of the best on the local scene right now- and his band rocks.
